Lenny Henry
Cradle To Rave
Assembly Hall Theatre
Royal Tunbridge Wells
17th February 2011
This is a super show from Lenny. Over two hours of excellent entertainment!
I'm
not going to go into too much depth or reveal exactly what happens in
this production. I feel it would completely ruin the experience for
anybody who is booked to see Lenny on this rather hectic tour which is
visiting places all over the UK.
What
I will say is that that this is different from Lenny's usual stand-up
routines, but don't worry die-hard Lenny comedy fans you'll still be
laughing in this show - a heck of a lot!
In
a nutshell Lenny is recounting how music has had such a profound
influence on his life. The artists that inspired (and still inspire)
him, how he had a desire to be a huge recording artist, how he has a
long standing wish to be able to play the piano properly (yes
seriously!). A shiny piano joins him on stage just longing to be
played... but does he?
I
can honestly say that even if you're not a devout Lenny Henry stand-up
fan but you love your music, especially from the 60's and 70's, then you
may still come away from this experience very impressed. You may even
see Mr Henry in a whole new light.
So can he sing? Can he play the piano? Who are those artists who have had such a massive effect on his life?
The only way you are going to find out is by seeing Cradle to Rave.
The
one thing I will say is that anybody seeing the show will discover
there is a lot more to Lenny Henry than a stand-up comedian.
Book
it, enjoy it and watch Lenny entertain and if Tunbridge Wells is
anything to go by sweat in a way you have never seen before!
Incidentally
many thanks to Lenny for undertaking an unscheduled signing to support
great Ormond Street Childrens Hospital. I know he'd had a VERY long day
having been on breakfast TV that morning. Those of you who are
interested in bidding sometime in the future for Lenny's unique
memorabilia can click my photo for further details.
